The Silesian Guitar Autumn will also grace the halls of the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice. During the concert, Piotr Moss’s Suite Concertante will be performed to celebrate the 75th anniversary of this distinguished Polish composer’s birth. Moss’s brilliant career took him to Paris, where he studied under the renowned Nadia Boulanger, and won numerous prizes in international composition competitions. He currently lives and works in Warsaw.
Piotr Moss is the author of numerous orchestral, chamber, solo, a cappella choral, vocal-instrumental compositions with religious themes, and stage works. His body of work prominently features instrumental music, which includes not only compositions for orchestra and solo pieces but also a series of works for guitar accompanied by orchestra, highlighting the guitar’s role alongside orchestral arrangements.
During the concert, the audience will also hear the suite Farewell and the piece Milonga, composed specifically for this event by the young composer and guitarist Szymon Gołąbek, who draws inspiration from Brazilian music.
The programme is complemented by works for string orchestra by renowned Polish composers of the 20th century, including Orawa—an outstanding symphonic poem for chamber string orchestra by Wojciech Kilar from 1986.
