On 20 October, the second-round auditions of the 20th J.E. Jurkowski International Guitar Competition will begin at the F. Rybicki Music School Complex in Tychy. From 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., young guitarists from around the world will present their skills before an international jury, competing for a place in the final round.

For many years, the Tychy competition has been one of Europe’s most important and prestigious events dedicated to classical guitar. Held as part of the Silesian Guitar Autumn Festival, it is not only a test of young artists’ musical abilities, but also an opportunity to take the first steps towards an international career. Its laureates include outstanding guitarists such as Marcin Dylla, Jérémy Jouve and Kyuhee Park.

This year’s 20th anniversary edition is particularly significant, taking place during the 40th anniversary of the Festival and the 75th anniversary of Tychy receiving city rights. Following the first round, conducted through online preselection, the best participants will meet in Tychy to perform live, showcasing their artistic skills, musical personality and interpretation of the repertoire.

The second round will be another important step on the road to the Grand Final, which will take place on 24 October. The finalists will perform with the AUKSO Chamber Orchestra of the City of Tychy, presenting masterpieces of the guitar repertoire – Guitar Concerto No. 1 in D major, Op. 99 by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco and Joaquín Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez.

The second-round auditions will provide an opportunity to witness artists who may one day join the ranks of the world’s leading classical guitarists. Once again, Tychy will become a meeting place for young talent, artistic ambition and great music.
