In 1985, Romero Lubambo arrived in the United States, bringing with him a new music—Brazilian jazz guitar. His playing unites the styles and rhythms of his Brazilian musical heritage with the American jazz tradition, creating a distinctive, new sound. From serene, complex Brazilian rhythms to energetic hard bop, Romero is a guitarist who excels in every style. He is an exceptionally gifted soloist and improviser with an inexhaustible musical imagination that serves as a source for unpredictable ideas, backed by the virtuosity required to realize them.

Upon arriving in New York, Romero quickly established himself as a first-call session and touring guitarist, sought after not only for his authentic Brazilian sound but also for his proficiency in adapting to diverse musical styles.

Lubambo has performed and recorded with numerous prominent artists, such as: Dianne Reeves, Billie Eilish, Angelique Kidjo, Michael Brecker, Yo-Yo Ma, Kathleen Battle, Diana Krall, Herbie Mann, Wynton Marsalis, Gal Costa, Kurt Elling, Kenny Barron, Luciana Souza, Cyro Baptista, Sergio and Odair Assad, Ivan Lins, Grover Washington Jr., Vernon Reid, Flora Purim and Airto, Paquito D’Rivera, Harry Belafonte, Larry Coryell, Gato Barbieri, Leny Andrade, James Carter, Paula Robison, Dave Weckl, Jason Miles, and Cesar Camargo Mariano.

He has also made a name for himself as a composer and performer of his own pieces, earning critical acclaim, and was nominated for a Grammy Award with Trio Da Paz, formed alongside Nilson Matta and Duduka da Fonseca.

Lubambo’s music blends the elegance of Brazilian tradition with modern jazz. His concerts are renowned for their immense musicality, spontaneous improvisation, and the uniquely warm tone of his acoustic guitar. Many guitarists consider him a master of fingerstyle technique and one of the most important global ambassadors of Brazilian jazz guitar.
