Josemi Carmona (born in Madrid, 1971) is a key figure in Spanish music, flamenco, and the guitar, inheriting an artistic legacy spanning four generations. He began playing the guitar at the age of three, and at 14 joined Ketama, pioneers of Nuevo Flamenco, with whom he toured the world and sold over a million albums.
At just 15 years old, he participated in the American tour “Flamenco Puro,” performing alongside leading flamenco masters such as Farruco, Chocolate, Adela la Chaqueta, and El Güito. He has collaborated with artists like Paco de Lucía and Alejandro Sanz, and also produced albums for Niña Pastori.
After 20 years of performing with Ketama, he launched his solo career, blending flamenco with other genres and collaborating with acclaimed artists such as Dave Holland and Jorge Drexler. His debut album, Las Pequeñas Cosas, was nominated for the Latin Grammy Awards in 2011.
In 2016, he released the flamenco-jazz project De Cerca with Javier Colina, consolidating his position as one of the leading figures of the genre. In 2019, he reunited with Ketama for the “No estamos Lokos” tour while continuing to develop his own projects.
In 2022, he released the album Vida with Colina and Bandolero, and is currently touring with this project while simultaneously showcasing his latest work, My Life, My Music.
Josemi Carmona also served as the artistic director of the “Flamenco Legacy” project at New York’s prestigious Carnegie Hall, an initiative of the Paco de Lucía Foundation. He continues to work closely with his father, the legendary Pepe Habichuela, and singer Soleá Morente, strengthening his bond with the great flamenco dynasties. At the same time, he is producing the upcoming album of the acclaimed Esperanza Fernández, confirming his role as a key producer and creator on the contemporary music scene.
