Born in 1991 in Bucharest, Romania, Bogdan Mihailescu began studying the guitar at the age of 10 under Liviu Georgescu at the George Enescu National Conservatory in Bucharest (now operating as the National University of Music Bucharest). At age 17, he made his debut as a soloist with the Romanian National Radio Orchestra (Orchestra Națională Radio).
In 2012, he entered the Paris Conservatory, where he studied under Olivier Chassain and Laurent Blanquart, and under the artistic guidance of Judicaël Perroy. In 2018, he obtained his Master of Arts degree in guitar performance with honors (Très Bien à l’unanimité), followed by a second Master’s degree in Instrumental Pedagogy at the University of Music Geneva (Haute École de Musique de Genève) in 2020 under Dusan Bogdanovic.
Throughout his career, Bogdan Mihailescu has had the opportunity to perform around the world, giving concerts and masterclasses in France, Italy, Romania, Switzerland, Slovenia, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Germany, Poland, Finland, Australia, Brazil, Argentina, and Mexico.
Bogdan is a laureate of many international competitions, including first prize at the José Tomás International Guitar Competition in Spain, the Enrico Mercatali International Classical Guitar Competition in Italy, the Adelaide Guitar Festival in Australia, the Kutna Hora International Music Festival (Czech Republic), the Harmonia Cordis International Guitar Festival (Romania), and the Tallinn International Competition in Estonia. He has also won second prizes at: the Forum Gitarre Wien International Competition in Austria, the Paganini International Festival in Italy, the GFA International Convention & Competitions in Denver (USA), the LiGiTa International Guitar Festival in Liechtenstein, and the Festival Internacional de Música da Primavera de Viseu in Portugal, as well as third prizes at the Tokyo International Guitar Competition in Japan and the International Competition for Young Guitarists in Velbert, Germany.
As a passionate discoverer of new guitar repertoire, he regularly transcribes works by composers such as Chopin, Bach, Ravel, and Debussy. His debut album, Nocturne, released in 2016 at the José Tomás Guitar Festival, features several of his transcriptions.
