Award ceremony and concert of the winners of the 19th International Jan Edmund Jurkowski Memorial Guitar Competition / Antonio Rey with band
The final concert of the 19th Silesian Guitar Autumn Festival will take place at the Mediateka in Tychy. It is here, in one of the best concert halls in Poland, that we will meet and listen to the finest guitarists of this year’s 19th Jan Edmund Jurkowski Memorial International Guitar Competition. During the festival’s closing evening concert, Antonio Rey will perform with his ensemble.
The event will begin with the award ceremony and the concert of the laureates of the 19th Jan Edmund Jurkowski Memorial International Guitar Competition.
In the second part of the evening, we will hear flamenco music performed by one of the most outstanding guitarists of his generation. Antonio Rey and his ensemble are known for their extraordinary skills and ability to captivate audiences. His highly acclaimed discography has won numerous awards, and this year will see the release of his latest album, Historias de un Flamenco.
At the concert in Tychy, compositions from the award-winning Latin Grammy album Flamenco Sin Fronteras will be featured, a project showcasing the evolution of flamenco into the new millennium. During the concert, pieces such as Taranta solo de guitarra, Calle Cañailla, and Historias de un Flamenco will be performed. Antonio will present his roots, a place where boundaries have always been blurred, where the old remains new, and where one can discover the true soul of Andalusia. This blend of tradition with a rejection of rules and the dismissal of dogmas sees Rey embracing the rigidity of farruca, the fluidity of alegría, and the rhythmic solidity of rumba, while extracting fandango and revelling in bulería. Flamenco Sin Fronteras is a journey through the exquisite realm of sound and the generous heart of Antonio, who boldly and freely explores the endless possibilities of his two hands, three-quarter pulse, five fingers, and six strings. For Antonio Rey, the only valid music theory is freedom.
