Romuald Jurkowski’s Final Farewell

It is with heavy hearts that we remember today the wonderful man who has just left us. Unexpectedly, we have received the news of the passing of Romuald Jurkowski, the son of Jan Edmund Jurkowski, the founder, creator, and first artistic director of the Silesian Guitar Autumn International Festival. For years, Romuald Jurkowski supported us in preserving his father’s legacy. Together with his wife, he enriched the festival with his vibrant presence and colourful personality, coming from France, his permanent residence.
“One can leave forever, to always remain close.” (Jan Twardowski)
Remain with us, Romek, as you have been with us all these years — the guiding spirit of the festival and the most worthy successor to the vision of your father, the patron of the Silesian Guitar Autumn. Thank you for your always kind words, for the small gestures that have left us with warm memories, and for always reaffirming our belief that together we create something truly wonderful. It was you who co-created the festival atmosphere, who gladly spoke about your Dad, who supported the guitar competition participants, and who engaged in long conversations with festival guests.
We share with you Romek’s story about the festival, about his father who created the Silesian Guitar Autumn, about everything that could have remained only in their memories, but what was preserved thanks to our conversations with people important to the festival.

Thank you for everything, including music, which beautifully expresses what words cannot.
Our hearts go out to the family during this time of loss.
