The festival orchestra

In February 1998 one of Europe’s most interesting chamber music ensembles came into being. A group of the graduates of the Music Academy in Katowice, Poland, together with Marek Moś, an outstanding violinist, conductor and chamber musician, have created an orchestra, which was to be for them more than only place of work – rather an area of artistic quest and creative development and jointly creation of art of highest value. This is how AUKSO was born; the name, chosen by the ensemble – a Greek word meaning growth/to grown – is not accidental; expressing the musicians’ aspirations, it is also marking the direction of their professional path. It is telling about the need for perfecting oneself and consequence, about picking up the gauntlets and being receptive.

AUKSO is performing in Poland and abroad (Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Brazil, Austria, Denmark, Ireland, Sweden, Switzerland, Russia, Ukraine, Lithuania, China), co-operating witch such artists as Piotr Andryszewski, Rudolf Barshai, Howard Shelly, Andrzej Bauer, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Mark Minkowski, Jacek Kasprzyk, Daniele Alberti, Kaja Danczowska, Agata Szymczewska, Volker, Schmidt-Gertenbach, Władysław Kłosiewicz, Janusz Olejniczak, Olga Pasiecznik czy The Hilliard Ensemble. There are concerts at festivals (among others the Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival, Wratislavia Cantans, Warsaw Autumn, Auditorio Palacio de Congresos da Saragossa, Caja Dero, Festival Sotto La Rocca – Italy, Sacrum Profanum, FD4K, Jazz Jamboree), there are CDs with Polish contemporary music: the ensemble has recorded among others works by Grażyna Bacewicz, Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, Witold Lutosławski, Wojciech Kilar and Zbigniew Preisner. And there is the borderland: merging classics with jazz and rock, searching for their common denominator – or inversely: playing with oppositions and colliding separate musical languages. AUKSO has performed and recorded with such artists as Leszkek Możdżer, Tomasz Stańko, Urszula Dudziak, Michał Urbaniak, Motion Trio and Voo Voo.

And then again there is their own festival: each year since 2000 in Poland’s lake districts the: “AUKSO Summer Philharmonic” takes place, with the orchestra it’s host. In the unique atmosphere of one of the most beautiful regions of Poland concerts, workshops and master – classes are being organized, gathering well-wishers, music lovers and artists from all over the country.

AUKSO is growing. Season after season widening its repertoire, coming back to places well known and accepting new invitations. Winning more and more dedicated public and enthusiasts of the art they are offering. It is one of Polish most superb orchestras – a versatile ensemble, which from the very beginning has distinguished itself, and fostering wisely its individuality, in distinct way marks its presence in Europe’s cultural life.
